“TOY DRIVE” for the Families of Kohler UAW Local 883

The families of Kohler’s UAW Local 833 have been on strike since November 15th, taking a moral and necessary stand for equal pay for equal work—fighting back against an unjust two-tier wage system that pays workers different wages for the same job that traps lower-tier workers in a cycle of low wages.

The UAW Local 833 is hosting a holiday toy drive for the children of striking families. They are looking for new, unwrapped toys for children, ages 0-to-17, whose families are involved in the strike.

If you would like to donate to the toy drive, please drop off donations at the Wash Dem Office at 132 North Main Street in West Bend. A volunteer will drive to Sheboygan to deliver the toys.

Please note that the UAW Local 833 continues to run its food pantry as well, and we will continue to run weekly donations up to their food pantry as well.

You may also help the UAW Local 833 families by donating to their strike fund that is used to help the strikers with bills and insurance. You can send donations to: UAW 833 Kohler Strike, Emil Mazey Hall, 5425 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan, WI 53083.

There is a new voter I.D. requirement at the polls and very few people understand the specific rules of this new law. We need to understand these new voter requirements so we can help and inform others.

In 2016, we will be electing the next U.S. President and one of Wisconsin’s U.S. Senators.

Our guest speaker, Anita Johnson, an organizer with Citizens Action of Wisconsin, will explain the new requirements of the new Wisconsin Voter I.D. Law.

Sock Drive — 2015

Adult-Daffodil-mediumWe have been asked to do our “Sock Drive” for the West Bend High Schools’ “Holiday Hope” event again this year. Last year, the socks we collected for students were a top hit at the vent and students spent a lot of time selecting just the right pair of socks.

Please drop off your sock donation at the Wash Dem Party Office at 132 North Main Street in West Bend. The socks are for teenagers—ages 14 to 18—so they should be in adult or teen sizes.

All donations are appreciated. Thank you for participating in this “Holiday Cheer” event.

Note: last day to bring in socks is Wednesday, December 9th; bring some along to the Community Forum meeting on the Voter I.D. that night
